July 1... The weather was beautiful for the Independence Day celebration in Blowing Rock. The Cockman grandkids participated in the parade, and then we had a great time singing in the park.

July 8... We always look forward to a free Saturday in July to visit the Shindig on the Green. This year renovations are being made to the green, so the shindig is being held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park a few blocks over. It was a great place for a bluegrass festival!

July 9... What a great way to beat the heat at Fred's Mercantile on Beech Mountain! If you haven't noticed already, we like to head for the hills during the months of July and August. And around here, you can't get any higher than Beech Mountain -- its the highest town in the eastern U.S. We enjoyed the scenery and had a great dinner at Fred's Backside Deli. Thanks, Fred and Margie!

July 15... We had another wonderful festival at the Music Fest 'n Sugar Grove at the Old Cove Creek School this year. We were thrilled to have Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver returning, and also the The Kruger Brothers back again.  The sound crew from Peace Haven Baptist Church was awesome, and it really was a successful festival. The best part for me was the jam at the end with Ben and the Krugers! The festival was dedicated to the memory of our friend Ronnie Hicks. The proceeds of the festival benefit the restoration of the Cove Creek School the Doc and Rosa Lee Watson scholarship fund. Doc was on hand to award the Scholarship!

July 16... We sang at Fairfield Methodist Church in nearby Caroline's birthday! This was a beautiful church, and we performed outside. We didn't get any pictures, so I'll use this opportunity for some gratuitous photos of Ben and Melissa!
