October 1... This was our third year at the Claremont Day festival.  There were lots of activities for the kids, and plenty to do and eat.  The weather was nice, but it did turn out to be hotter than we expected.  We enjoyed the music of the Flowers Family and the Sigmon Stringers, two talented young area bands.  We sang right before the Hoppers, who are one of my favorite southern gospel groups, but we had to leave immediately after our set in order to make it to Kannapolis on time.

October 1... We had a wonderful time at our regular Rowan County Peace Officers benefit singing in China Grove.  We always love to hear the music of our friends The Wishons, and all the other groups as well.  The singing is held annually at South Rowan High School.

October 8... We gave a quick concert in honor of cancer survivor Angie Pruitt.  She and her husband Larry thanked the hospital staff and a group of friends with an afternoon of music and barbeque.  We used to go to church with the Pruitts some twenty-five years ago, so we had a nice reunion with a lot of old friends.  Sorry, no pictures!

October 8... We sang with Ben's alternate group, "Fireproof", later Saturday evening at Oxford Elementary School.  Fireproof is a great 'crowd around the microphone' bluegrass gospel group.  Their concerts feature several of the band member's stellar songwriting skills.  We had a lot of fun with these guys at this spirit-filled concert.

October 15... Cotton Ginning Days was a lot of fun this year, especially with all the great music.  I really enjoyed the Sankofa strings, a great old-time band out of the Black Banjo Tradition.  We also enjoyed the Peasall Sisters and the Flowers Family.  And of course all the kids had fun experiencing life during the cotton ginning days!

October 15... We sang at Back Creek Presbyterian as part of their Bicentennial Celebration.  Back Creek is a beautiful old church, and the original building is still on the grounds.  After the concert we were treated to a meal in the fellowship hall!  Visit: http://backcreekpca.com/

October 22... Saturday, we traveled to Asheboro to benefit cancer patient Jeff Broyles.  Jeff is the son-in-law of our friend Junior Stanley, a pastor in Ramseur.  The benefit was held at Ramseur Elementary School.  In addition to the music, there were deserts sold and a silent furniture auction.  We were excited to see Edward and Zelma King, and Polly King.  Edward is Grandma Cockman's brother, and Polly was married to Grandma's brother, Robert, who passed away last month.

October 30... Sunday morning we sang for the annual Harwell Reunion, held at Center United Methodist Church at the end of Sherrill's Ford Road.  The guest of honor was Grandma Gabriel, whose mother was a Harwell.  Grandma's family gathered from all around, and we had a very nice fellowship and dinner following the service.  Grandma Cockman came as well, so all of our grandparents were there!

October 30... We finished out the month at Hopewell Baptist Church in Morganton.  Worship leader Darin Smith  invited us to this community-minded church for a Sunday evening concert.  After Pastor Murdoch blessed and commissioned a group of missionaries and volunteers, we finished the service with some good bluegrass gospel!
