July 2... Once again, the rain barely held off for our concert in the park.  We had a lot of family come up to the cooler mountains for this concert, and Grandma and Grandpa Gabriel hosted a family picnic in the park, complete with plenty of home-grown vegetables from their garden.  The Cockman Grandmothers and Grandchildren walked in the parade, then the Cockman Family gave a concert immediately after the parade passed.

July 3... This morning we sang at Southside Baptist Church in Charlotte.  We had an awesome time playing along to some Spanish praise songs, as Southside Baptist was joined by an area Spanish assembly.  After the singing there were hamburgers and fellowship!  Sorry no pictures!

July 10... Even in the middle of July, we know we can count on it being cool at Fred's Mercantile on Beech Mountain.  We had to wear long-sleeve shirts and sweaters, and it threatened rain through most of our concert.  The girls enjoyed shopping at the Toy Shop, and of course we had supper at Fred's Backside Deli.  This was the first of Fred's summer concerts, and I think it was the biggest crowd we'd ever seen there.  I'd also like to throw in an extra plug for Fred's Guest Quarters:  http://www.fredsgeneral.com/guestquarters.html.  Caroline and Kelly stayed there a weekend this spring, and it was very nice, with an awesome view!

July 16... The Cockman Brothers began a three-stop tour of Appalachia by playing some bluegrass, gospel and old-time music at the beautiful Altapass Apple Orchard.  We were amazed at the beautiful view off the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Along with apples and scenery, there were hayride tours, a blacksmith, a wonderful gift shop, and a lot of great volunteers!  The Historic Orchard at Altapass was chosen as one of a group of sites and events highlighted in the first-of-its-kind National Geographic Map Guide to Appalachia, featured in the April issue of National Geographic Traveler magazine.  Visit and learn about the Altapass foundation at http://www.altapassorchard.com.

July 16... Our next stop was the Shindig on the Green in Asheville.  Thousands of music lovers gather on the green in front of the fire department, and bands play two or three songs apiece.  Then there is lots of first-class jamming around the square!  Visit the web site at:  http://www.folkheritage.org/shindigonthegreen.htm.  We picked up "Highway Bound" guitarist Colby Laney for some help onstage and also a great jam session!

July 19... The Cockman Brothers rounded up their Appalachia tour in Boone, NC at the High Country Roundup.  We played for half and hour before the Tuesday Night Jam Session began, and then we stuck around for more!  The Roundup is gracious enough to offer a free jam night once a week for local musicians.  Visit them on the web at:  http://www.hcroundup.com/

July 29... We always love the opportunity to be a part of Earlene Hicks' Crimestoppers Benefits.  This time we were in Valdese, site of the historic Waldensian settlement, with awesome southern gospel singers "Change of Heart".  The concert was at the Old Rock School.
