August 5-6... We were honored to sing in the song service on Thursday and Friday evening of the 31st Missionary Camp Meeting in Ruth, NC.  The meetings were sponsored by Bible Tabernacle Church.  The focus of the meetings is on church construction in developing nations.  There were 88 pastors in attendance from 22 different countries, and around $130,000 was raised.  Ed Byskal of Cloverdale Bibleway preached each night, and we also enjoyed the music of The Terry Tidwell Family and the Younce Brothers.

August 7... I can't remember how many times I've been to the Mountain Folk and Dance Festival in Asheville.  I'll never forget the years it was held at the Civic Center Arnea.  the Diane Wortham Theatre is too small for the festival, and not really conducive to a good jam.  I heard that the promoters are going to try to get the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium next year.  Hopefully we can loosen up a little more there.  We were glad to see Glen Bannerman and others, and we hope to be back next year!

August 8... Our longtime friends Robert and Cindy Poe invited us to a concert at their home Church in Salisbury.  It was nice to see few folks from the area that we haven't seen in a while.  After the concert, the church provided a pot-luck meal, and the kids enjoyed playing on the playground.

August 12... We sang Thursday night at the historic Balls Creek Methodist Camp Meeting.  The meetings last two weeks each summer, and have been ongoing since 1853.  Alan Brown came and operated the sound system for us.  We had a lot of family there, many of whom were camping in the permanent "tents" that circle the arbor.  After the concert Brittany Brumley served some homemade cupcakes!

August 14... Musician and Author Joe Shannon invited us to sing for his Mountainhome Music summer series at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Boone, NC.  The church is very beautiful, a great setting for Joe's relaxed musical style.  We enjoyed the hammered dulcimer, harmonica, and recitation.

August 21... Saturday morning we sang in Waynesville, at Haywood Community College, for Haywood Electric.  After our concert, there was a meeting and prize giveaway, then some great BBQ in the cafeteria.  After the concert, we had to leave and drive a 175 miles to the next concert.

August 21... After an A.M. concert in Waynesville, we were up late Saturday night singing for the Peace Officer's Association at South Rowan High School near China Grove.  Once again we enjoyed the high-octane southern gospel of the Wishons and others.  Alan Brown ran the sound system for us, and we had BBQ for the second time this day in China Grove.

August 26... Second Baptist of Lancaster really outdid themselves this year for their annual Sportsman's Banquet.  There was plenty of BBQ and Chicken for supper.  The church went all out with outdoor sports vendors, trophy animals on display, and lots of really nice door prizes.  Nick Natale and Pastor Jim Spenser were great hosts, and Chick Fillet's Mark Conklin gave his stirring message and testimony, "Don't Guide the Guide".
