October 4... We started our Saturday off on a good note at Claremont's Fall Festival, right on Main Street.  We got to hear the Mighty Gospel Enforcers, 3 For 1, The Reggie Saddler Family, and many other groups. There were also plenty of fun things for the kids to do.  The highlight for me was meeting back up with my friend Samuel Stutts.  We were together from kindergarten to high school graduation.  Sam is back in town after a seven year stay in Florida, and is working as a disc jockey for Joy FM radio.  Joy FM was the media sponsor for the event, and Sam introduced the Cockman Family.

October 4... We sang for an hour to start off the Granite Quarry Fiddler's Convention, then half and hour at intermission as Daddy was honored as the Granite Quarry Civitan Fiddlers Convention Honored Guest of 2003.  Daddy joins a long list of distinguished honored guests dating back to the 1960s.  We enjoyed the other groups, but we were just too tired to do any of the jamming that we had planned.

October 5... We especially love this time of year because of all the homecoming meetings we get to attend.  Sunday morning we were at Faith Baptist in Iron Station, the home church of our friends Tommy and Shirley Ballard.  After the singing and preaching, we moved over to the fellowship hall for the dinner, and let me tell you, it was really something special.

October 5... Sunday night we celebrated the 72nd birthday of our pastor Charles Brumley.  Instead of the regular preaching service, the Cockman Family gave a concert.  After church we sat around over at Bojangles and ate some chicken.

October 11... This was about our fifth time at Dallas for Cotton Ginning Days.  We always enjoy the food and farm equipment, and of course all of the good bluegrass music!  We were thrilled to see David Murph playing mando with the A. L. Wood Band.  David, who built Ben's mandolin, has been very sick for several years, and it was great to see him at the festival.

October 26... Ever since the family got too big to meet at Nadine's house, we've been getting together at Center United Methodist Church.  The Cockman Family sang for the AM service, then all the Harwells (Grandma Gabriel's maiden name) get together for dinner and fellowship in the fellowship hall.

October 31... Our friend Tommy Deese and wife Tina invited a ton of folks from area churches to a hotdog roast at their home in Newton.  There was a big bonfire, and plenty of dogs and fixins.  After eating all the boys made some music with cousins Joseph and Michael Gabriel while the kids played and the adults fellowshipped around the fire.
