September 7... We were with some legendary old guitar pickers at Catawba Valley Community College.  Arthur Smith and Doc Watson are both in their late seventies, but they both still pick like pros.  Arthur was accompanied by his son Clay, and Doc by his grandson Richard and friend Jack Lawrence.  There were many other great musicians present at this benefit for CVCC.

September 8... We sang on a flat-bed trailer outside Smyrna Presbyterian Church in our hometown of Sherrill's Ford.  The Smyrna basketball court holds many fond and not-so-fond memories for us.

September 14... Uncle Darl and Aunt Mary Fowler put on a huge annual party in Greensboro.  First they fed 45 neighbors, friends and family members at their home, then met at the Faith Wesleyan to treat their entire church to music and homemade ice cream.  Darl sings Barber Shop Quartet style, and he and the gang always give a great show.  Barber Shop and Sweet Adeline combo "Guys and Dolls" also gave a concert.

September 15... Why do the Wesleyans have the best food?  First Wesleyan York's homecoming was a cooking extravaganza, and we were surprised at how many people we recognized!  It was very special that our cousins Rusty and Ronald Cockman came to be with us, and Ronald's daughter Ashley.  Our cousin Larry (Darl's son) Fowler was pastor when we were last here, and the church holds many memories for us.

September 15... A dozen are Baptist Churches called off their Sunday evening services to attend the Baptist tent meeting in Denver, NC.  Each year, the meeting is hosted by a different church, and this time it was Mountain View Baptist on East Maiden Highway.  The big tent will remain up as services begin at 7:00 PM all this week.  The guest speaker each night is our friend Rev. Kenneth Riddings of Fruitland Bible Institute near Hendersonville.

September 21... Cousin Charles Lednum and family put on a great party in Ramseur, NC.  Uncle Darl and Aunt Mary Fowler came, and we got reacquainted with lots of relatives from Grandpa Cockman's younger sister Ellen's family.  We were treated to some of the best BBQ we've had in a long time!

September 22... Did I mention that Wesleyans have the best food?  Buddy Rampey has invited us to sing several times at Faith Wesleyan in Greensboro, but this was our first singing at his new charge in Bessemer City.  First Wesleyan has grown out of their sanctuary, and now hold all meetings in the fellowship hall.  After the morning service, chairs were cleared for the homecoming meal.  After the meal, tables had to be cleared for Monday night's open gym basketball!

September 22... Flemings Chapel Baptist Church sponsored a wonderful event in Gamewell.  Pastor Hugh Whitfield preached, the choir sang, the high school band played, the local guard presented a 21-gun salute, and many great regional and national gospel groups and singers gave concerts.  Even though it rained cats and dogs, the big tent was full of joy!

September 28... This was our second time playing for the Peacemakers, a group based in Montana.  The Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove provided some great BBQ, and we were once again amazed at the performance of "Peculiar People", a husband and wife drama team from Nashville.  Their adaptation of Steve Brown's "Ebby, The Boy Who Loved Music", was awesome.

September 30... We were invited to sing for the employees of Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove at their annual staff picnic at a beautiful farm south of Asheville, NC.  No pictures yet but we had a great time, and got to see our friend Maury Scobee and meet Billy Graham.
