August 3... The crafts fair in Burnsville is always a great place to listen to awesome musicians and watch amazing craftsmen.  We sang twice, in the lat morning and early afternoon.  And we saw George Deal, who had been our barber for twenty years.  George retired from the barber shop, and now travels full-time to craft fairs.  The entire town square and the streets beyond we lined each side with crafts, food and games.  There was some great instrumental music and old country covers from a local band, the "Can't Hardly Play Boys".

Even though mama won't let her eat fatty burgers and coke, Arwen tells Ronald that he has some pretty good soft-serve ice cream!

August 3... One of the highlights of our year is to visit Asheville for the Mountain Folk and Dance Festival.  This is one of the oldest festivals in America, and each night of music is sold out at the downtown Pack Place.  The festival used to be held at the Civics Center.  Although there were more opportunities for jamming in the old location, the new Pack Place offers much better seating and sound.

August 4... Pastor David Byers and his wife Sylvia invited us back to New Jerusalem to a Sunday morning concert, and we were happy to be so close to home!  If the folks at New Jerusalem seem like old friends, it's because many of them are!  We were particularly glad to see Darryl and Al Fielding, who were some of the first bluegrass pickers we met when we first started playing around here some fifteen years ago.

August 9-10... Brother Dan Daisley, pastor of Bible Tabernacle in Ruth, NC, hosts a missionary camp meeting each year.  The proceeds go entirely to foreign missions, and this year's camp meeting raised in excess of $80,000.  Friday night, Ben, Billy and Caroline sang "That Joy Was You".  Saturday morning Tim Cross organized a singing which featured the Younce Brothers and the Cockman Family, along with several awesome soloists.

August 18... Pastor Benjamin Clarke invited us to kick off the first night of special meetings commemorating the dedication of his new church in Hickory.  There will be preaching and special singing each night this week.  We pray that God will bless this church and the work that went to make this dedication possible.

August 24... A bad storm caused the power to go out at Brock Auditorium, an hour before we were to put on a charity concert for Wal-Mart Children's Miracle Network.  Because the power could not be restored immediately, the concert was cancelled.  It will be rescheduled, and we will keep you updated.  Since we're all acoustic, we put on an unplugged concert for those who had already arrived and who didn't want to leave.  There was another bluegrass band there, so we just jammed until the emergency aisle lights began to dim!

August 30-31... We celebrated Lorien's one year birthday anniversary at the Terrace Inn, then had a fun time playing some basketball and volleyball before it was time for some singing at the Smoky Mountain Folk Festival.  Our annual weekend at beautiful Lake Junaluska is always more like a vacation than a singing!  This year was the biggest crowd we've ever seen (probably thanks to "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou"), and the audience was tremendous both nights.  We are already looking forward to next year!
