September 8 ... It was a beautiful day for a fair at Center Church in Mocksville.  There were lots of farm equipment, arts and crafts, produce and ice cream.  We enjoyed the Wicker Family, who will join us at Murray's Mill this year, but we couldn't stay long because we had to scoot on down to Hickory Grove, SC.

September 8... We had a good singing at Hickory Grove Church of God.  The church was full, and we had a lot of the in-laws along.  After church we drove up to Gastonia and ate at the Cracker Barrel.

September 11... On the day of the World Trade Center bombing, we sang at the Mountain State Fair in Asheville, NC.  It was a touching moment when all the shows and rides were stopped at 7:30 PM for a time of silence and prayer.  We saw a bunch of people we knew, and even got to de some extra picking later at the old-time stage!

September 14... This was our first time on the campus of Pfeiffer University, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.  We sang in the Chapel for a cultural class at 10:00, then crossed the road to the student center for lunch.  During lunch we observed a nation-wide moment of silence for the victims of terrorism, then went upstairs to watch the memorial service a the National Cathedral on TV.  I apologize for accidentally deleting the pictures I took at Pfeiffer.

September 15... This was our second year in a row at the Yadkinville Harvest Festival.  Jay White invited us to be a part of the JOY FM stage.  We followed local legends "Dixie Dawn", a group which features the talents of David Johnson.  David worked with us on Arthur Smith's PBS specials, and has been voted Southern Gospel Musician of the Year twice in a row.  We all got a little sun then drove to Kannapolis for the Sheriff's Association.

September 15... We always enjoy singing for the Rowan County Peace Officers Association.  Earlene Hicks always puts on a top notch concert, and we enjoyed the talents of many other great performers.  "Change of Heart" is now a live band with great musicians, which we greatly prefer over canned music.  We missed the Wishons, who were in Louisville for the National Quartet Convention.  For the last song, all the groups gathered on stage for a rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner".

September 16... We weren't quite to the edge of the world, but we could see it from Chester Grove Baptist Church near Tobaccoville.  Charlie Ball and the rest of the congregation invited us for an outdoor picnic under the arbor before the 7:00 PM singing.

September 22... Uncle Darl Fowler, Aunt Mary and Grandma Cockman invited us to their annual backyard ice cream party for all their friends, family and neighbors. The highlight of the evening was when Darl and friends regaled us with some great Barbershop Quartet numbers, ending with "God Bless America".

September 23... It was great to be so close to my house for a change on Sunday night.  We sang just a few miles from baby central at First Baptist of Blowing Rock.  This is the church that Jennifer and her family attended when we met.  Ellen Hartley invited us, and the new pastor Marshall Edwards (good Baptist surname) welcomed us to the high country.  We had fun sitting around the park before the concert, and after the concert ate pizza at the Mellow Mushroom.

September 28... We had a fun concert in Lincolnton, NC.  Even though the crowd was a little off due to a scheduling conflict, we had a great time.  Lyle Back and crew made us feel at home, and we also had a nice dinner down the road at the Barbeque King.

September 29-30... The weather was great at our annual bluegrass farm festival at Murray's Mill.  We had a lot of great groups at the mill on Saturday and Sunday.  The festival included lots of great food, molasses making and quilting, petting zoos and farm equipment, and a civil war reenactment.
