July 1... We had a very nice time at the Southeast Old Threshers Reunion.  There were hundreds of old engines and other interesting farm equipment, and some good singing, too.  We sang twice on Sunday, along with the Chuck Wagon Gang and a local group that we leaned we were related to.  The nicest thing was the air-conditioned dressing rooms behind the stage!

July 4... We spent Independence Day at Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in Fruitland, NC.  Pastor Ken Ridings, whom we met at 2nd Baptist in Lancaster, SC, invited us to this beautiful location in Western North Carolina to sing for his students.  We ate hot dogs after the singing, then the boys and I went swimming in Lake Lure.  Ask us about that one sometime.

July 6... We arrived in time to set up the sound at Christian Fellowship Tabernacle in Christiansburg, VA.  The speaker, Perry Greene, was arriving from New Mexico at 6:30, so we sang until he was ready to preach.  There was a great crowd, including 28 from our church in Newton.   We really enjoyed Brother Greene's stories of time spent with William Branham, and we gave him some CDs in return for some books.  The rest of the family stayed in VA, but Jennifer and I came back early so Arwen could rest up for the next day in Blowing Rock.

July 7... Mama and Elizabeth Riley each entered the Blowing Rock Independence Day Parade as Arwen's favorite Grandmother.  It was very nice to be close to home (about four miles) for a change, and the parade tradition in Blowing Rock is one of our favorites.  There were lots of friends to sing to, and it was the birthday of J. B. Lawrence, the Mayor of Blowing Rock.  J. B. is the son-in-law of late Mayor Haden Pitts, who was our good friend for many years.  After we sang, the family came over to my house for pizza and practice.

July 14... Congratulations Charles and Peggy!  Our pastor Charles Brumley and his wife Peggy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday night at Hopewell UMC Community Life Center.  All of their five children and most of their grand and great grandchildren were there, along with many friends.  The kids and Sylvia Burgess worked really hard on the decorations and cake, and the celebration was a real success.  Peggy even got a new ring!

July 15... We all had a big lunch at Hopewell UMC in Sherrill's Ford for the Gabriel Reunion (mama's side) Sunday afternoon, then a big supper at Mount Pleasant UMC in Liberty.  Pastor Charles Adams invited us for a singing, and we really enjoyed ourselves.  It was a special treat to see our old friend Rev. Dave Cash and his family.

July 28-29, 31... At last we went into the studio to record!  It's been several years since the last album, and now we've done some catching up.  This recording should be ready for sale by mid September, and we plan to make a Christmas CD in October.  We cut the album at Arthur Smith's Queen City Records in Charlotte, NC.  Engineer David Floyd flew in from Nashville to produce the album, and we are very pleased with the results!
