August 4... It was extra hot on the stage at Burnsville, but we had a great time looking at crafts and listening to the music.  The Melody Masters Quartet supplied the sound and some great singing, and there were many other fantastic local acts.  The crowd was much improved from last year, and there were many more vendors as well.  Jennifer got a nice visit from her old boss and some friends from Samaritans Purse.

August 4... After Burnsville we took a short trip to Asheville where we sang a few songs at the Mountain Folk and Dance Festival at Pack Place.  We've been attending this festival for many years, and each year it seems a little better.  Here we get to see cloggers and square dancers, listen to bluegrass, old-time and folk music, and hear story-tellers!

August 5... This was our fourth time here at Christ Covenant Church in Matthews.  We're always a little awed by this beautiful, huge church, but a lot of friends came by to make us feel at home.  After the concert we dropped into Back Yard Burgers for a late supper, then made our way though Charlotte and back up to Sherrill's Ford.

August 11... We had a wonderful time with Syd and Jean Halstead and congregation at Spring Garden Baptist Church near New Bern, NC.  In a fundraiser for the new community life center, we were served hot dogs and hamburgers, and enjoyed the music of the Crossroads Quartet from New Bern and Kinston.

August 12... We got to see some of our cousins in Clover, SC, as Rusty Sr. and Ronald Cockman came by for our concert at the First Baptist Church.  This was our third concert at First Baptist, and the concert was moved to the fellowship hall because of the growing audience.  We were able to sing a lot of the new songs that will appear on the new album.

August 18... We always enjoy the festival atmosphere at the Shin Dig on the Green in downtown Asheville.  There's always a good crowd and Glen Bannerman is a great MC.  The Shin Dig goes on every Saturday throughout the summer, and we always try to go at least once a year.

Glenn Sanford of Lighthouse Promotions gave us a very warm welcome at the Lexington, NC, YMCA.  We enjoyed the super-fast bluegrass music of the Lanning Sisters, and the hospitality of the folks that were able to attend.  Visit Lighthouse Promotions on the web at http://lighthousepromotions.org/.

August 31- Sept. 1... While the rest of the Cockmans were vacationing at the Smoky Mountain Folk Festival in Lake Junaluska, NC, Jennifer and I were at the Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC.  Our second daughter, Lorien Noel Daystar Cockman, was born on Wednesday, September 29, at 11:17 PM.  She was 7 lb., 4 oz., and was 19 1/2 inches long.  Congratulations Jennifer!  Click here for last year's pictures at Lake Junaluska.
