October 7... We were glad that a few people braved the cold weather to attend our Fall Festival at Fiddler's Grove.  Fiddler's Grove is a beautiful campground owned by Harper and Wansie Van Hoy, and every memorial day they put on a Bluegrass and Old Time Fiddler's Festival that is one of the greatest in the nation.  Our Special Guests at the festival were the Workmen Quartet from Union Grove, and there was some fantastic dinner entertainment that included the Bluegrass Harmonies from Charlotte, NC, and the Johnson Sisters, also from Charlotte.  Two of Harper's granddaughters; Rebecca and Sarah Barker, played twin fiddles, then Sarah played a special song with Harper.

October 8... There was food, crafts, games and music at the Autumn Jubilee at Dan Nicholas Park east of Salisbury, NC.  Though it was cold, we had a great audience and, best of all, Arwen said Da-Da for the first time!  We sang some Bluegrass Gospel on the main stage between the Full Tilt Rock Band and country singer T. G. Sheppard.  Imaging that!  Johnny Cash even came by to sing "Daddy Sang Bass" for Kendall Poe.

October 14... Today we thanked Eli Whitney for the opportunity to sing at the Cotton Ginning Days festival in Dallas (North Carolina).  Banjo player Anthony Scruggs supplied a great sound system, and the Barkers and Johnsons supplied some helpful applause.  Don and Meg Eggleston brought came with their granddaughter Maggie Hooks (and mama Che!), and it was also great to see the Jacksons again.  It was a great day for a festival, and we had fun listening to the other bands and riding all the good rides between sets.

October 14... It was a night of great Bluegrass Gospel.  Appalachian Trail, Damascus Road, and the Far City Boys joined the Cockman Family for a concert to benefit the Town of Valdese Scholarship Fund.  What is it with this "one microphone only" fad, anyway?  I think it's just the latest episode in the love-hate relationship between bluegrass bands and sound men.  All the groups tonight sang out of one microphone, except for the Cockmans, who of course all have bad breath.

October 15... We had a good concert at Calvary Baptist in Lincolnton, NC.  Pastor David Jones and his congregation welcomed us with open arms, and we felt a great spirit.  We saw lots of folks we know, including a bunch from Living Word Tabernacle in Gastonia, and the Quinn Family from Davidson.  Click here to visit Calvary's web site!

October 16... Tonight we met in Boone, NC to sing for Farm Bureau Insurance's Annual Members Meeting.  The meeting was catered to by the Daniel Boone Inn, and the chicken and mashed potatoes were great!  The meeting was held in the National Guard Armory, and the Guardsmen helped us unpack and set up.  Food, Cockmans and door prizes... It just doesn't get any better than this.

October 20... Tonight we traveled to Elizabethton, TN, to sing at a special weekend meeting of the Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ.  These meetings lasted from Thursday through Sunday.  Happy Valley Pastor Donny Reagan invited Pastor Ed Byskal, of Cloverdale Bibleway in Vancouver, BC, to be the special speaker.  Brother Byskal is a world wide convention speaker, whose ministry has reached into more than 37 countries.

October 28... Once again we gathered with our cousins in Robbins, NC, for the BBQ Bash hosted by Clyde Maness.  Grandpa Cockman was born in Robbins, then moved after his father died.  But we still stay in touch with eastern NC family, and these get-togethers are a great way to do it.  After we finished singing, we picked a little bit with Clyde's band.  Grandma Cockman was there, and also Aunt Mary and Uncle Darl Fowler.  Sorry... No pictures!

October 29... We had a great time singing to our friends at Troutman Baptist Church in Troutman, NC.  Daddy's high school buddy Alan Brown came by and worked the sound for us.  Allan and Vonnie are the proud grandparents of a two-week old grandson!  It was a joy to see so many people we know and love.
