August 3... Today we sang at the Mountain Folk and Dance festival in Asheville, NC.  We sang for twenty minutes, then enjoyed a night of Appalachian music and dance.  It has been a few years since we played for the festival, but even in the new location (Pack Place) we still felt right at home.  Sorry -- no pictures!

August 4-5... What a spiritual uplift we received during the Camp Meetings!  These week long meetings were hosted by Brother Dan Daisley, and the speaker was Ed Byskal from Vancouver, British Columbia.  Click here to visit Cloverdale Bibleway's tremendous site!  Friday night, after a tremendous message by Ed Byskal, the Cockman Family closed the meetings with two a cappella hymns.  Saturday afternoon, Tim Cross organized a song service that included the Cockman Family, the Younce Brothers, The Terry Tidwell Band, and Isaiah Brooks.  The spirit of the Lord was very strong in these meetings.

August 5... August really is camp meeting month.  That means open arbors and sawdust floors!  After Ruth, we hurried to historic Rock Springs to be in concert with the Hoppers.  We enjoyed their music a lot.  Since Rock Springs is close to home, we became re-acquainted with many old friends.

August 6... We closed the weekend in beautiful Blowing Rock.  Rhonda Gales invited us up for a picnic at 6:00 PM, then we sang at 7:00 PM.  We were so glad to see the family of Haden Pitts.  Haden was the mayor of Blowing Rock for many years and was a dear friend.  Now his son-in-law J. B. Lawrence is filling his shoes.  It was so nice to leave the heat and humidity for a wonderful afternoon in the mountains!

August 13... I was out of town when the family sang at Christ UMC in High Point, but I don't know why I didn't give them the camera!  They had a great singing however, and the Lord really blessed.  Sorry no pictures!

August 18... We love to sing each year at Balls Creek Camp Meeting.  This historic camp meeting draws people from all over western North Carolina.  We host the "Local Night", when area choirs and singers give of their time and talents to the Lord.  This was definitely our best year so far, and the singing was out of this world!   And since it was only a few miles from home, we were blessed with the presence of many old friends.  This is the same arbor where Caroline and Kelly met, and in which they were later married.

August 19... At least once a summer we try to make it to the square in Asheville to sing at the Shin-dig.  This is a weekly outdoor event that features many folk and acoustic bands from the Asheville area, and also lots of cloggers.  We especially love all the jamming out behind the stage!

August 26... We were given a wonderful reception at Knightdale Baptist Church just outside of Raleigh, NC.  Pastor Hal Roach and and the Knightdale congregation really made us feel welcome.  We were given refreshments, and a wonderful meal after the singing.  We are truly blessed to have such great friends!

August 27... We remained in Eastern NC for an all-day affair at Rocky Mount First Baptist.  We sang a few songs for the televised morning service, then gathered with everyone for a great evening concert.  Song leader Jim Alley (a tireless worker!) made us welcome and kept everything organized, and we were given a great lunch by the Barnes family and the Guy family.  After the singing, we had a big hot dog supper!
