October 2... We had a great time at this wonderful folk festival in Mars Hill, NC, though we couldn't stay long.  I forgot my fiddle so I borrowed one from Dr. Mack Snodderly.  We sang four songs, then had to get home to rest for a busy day Sunday.

October 3... We had a great concert Sunday night, and got to see lots of our friends.  But what really made the evening was when George Beverly and Karlene Shea dropped by, along with Maury Scobie.  Mr. Shea is my favorite gospel singer, and has been a great inspiration to my family for many years.

October 8... Old TImey Day!  This is an annual event for the Cockman Family.  As we stand on the outdoor stage, in view of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, our knees shaking, our fingers numb, our teeth chattering loudly in the microphones, we feel like we are becoming better people.

October 9... We headed out west to Dallas (west of Belmont) to sing at the 12th Annual Cotton Ginning Days Festival.  There we saw our old friend and fellow musician Anthony Scruggs who was running the sound.  Also we got to play again with The Shady Grove Band and also Out of the Blue (with awesome fiddler Glen Alexander) from Charlotte.  David and Che Hooks provided lunch, and then we all drove to Greensboro to hear Bella Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Glen Duncan, Mark Shatz and Brian Sutton perform at the Carolina Theatre.  What a day of Bluegrass!

October 10... It got kind of wild at the LEAF festival.  It rained all day, but that didn't do much to dampen the spirits at this world event.  We were exposed to a huge spectrum of performance music and art, and felt that we were well received.  We played at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, and each concert ended with a standing ovation and an encore!

October 15 - 17... We got to sing at our own church Friday night and Sunday morning!  All weekend we had special revival meetings.  The visiting minister was Bro. Caroll from Manchester TN.  The services were phenomenal, and Sunday after church we all gathered to eat a covered dish lunch!

October 16... What a beautiful day for a festival!  We had a great time all day as Harper and Wansie VanHoy once again opened their campground to music lovers from all over the country.  With the Cockman Family was Master Fiddler Robin Warren and guitarist Brian Clancey of Spirit Fiddle, and Country Music songwriter Taylor Dunn, who came home from Nashville, TN for a special concert.  Robin is a classically trained "fiddler" who also designs Web pages, and Taylor has written hit songs for Reeba MacEntire, Garth Brooks, and many others.

After the concert we had a surprise birthday party for Harper's granddaughter Lindsay Lawrence, and who turns twenty on the seventeenth.  Happy birthday, Lindsay!
