John Edward Cockman Jr.
John Jr. sings bass and plays the fiddle in the group. His unique style of vocal arrangement has helped to strengthen the Cockman Family's sound.  Fifteen of his original songs have been recorded by the family, three of which have been released as singles to radio.

John has a master's degree in physics, and works as a Physics Instructor and Demonstration Manager in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Appalachian State University, and is also a full-time doctoral student.

John is married to Jennifer Cockman.  They are the proud parents of Arwen Grace Evenstar and Lorien Noel Daystar, the Butterpats.  John is the creator of CockmanFamily.com, and also publishes a weekly e-mail newsletter for the group.

The Butterpats
Arwen means "Beautiful Princess".  She is the daughter of John and Jennifer and is named for Arwen Undomiel (Evenstar) in J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings.  She was born on Feb 15, 2000.  In the "Butterpats" band, Arwen plays the fiddle, mandolin and piano.
Arwen Grace Evenstar Cockman
'... her who few mortals had yet seen; Arwen, daughter of Elrond, in whom it was said that the likeness of Luthien had come on earth again; and she was called Undumiel, for she was the Evenstar of her people.' -- J.R.R. Tolkein Crossing the Bar
Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of time and place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

Arwen's Cubby Picture

He telleth the number of the stars; He calleth them all by their names." - Psalms 147:4
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the daystar arise in your hearts - 2 Peter 1:19
Lorien Noel Daystar Cockman 'There lie the woods of Lothlórien!' said Legolas. 'That is the fairest of all the dwellings of my people. There are no trees like the trees of that land. For in the autumn their leaves fall not, but turn to gold. Not till the spring comes and the new green opens do they fall, and then the boughs are laden with yellow flowers; and the floor of the wood is golden, and golden is the roof, and its pillars are of silver, for the bark of the trees is smooth and grey... My heart would be glad if I were beneath the eaves of that wood, and it were springtime!' -- J.R.R. Tolkein
Lorien means "Golden Paradise".  She is the daughter of John and Jennifer, and the sister of Arwen. She was born on August 29, 2001.  Her first name was taken from J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, in which Lothlórien (Song of Golden Paradise) is the home of the elves and a reminder of that paradise.  In the "Butter Pats" band, Lorien sings lead and strums guitar.
